This journey is focused on walking by rarely explored trails, observing on cultural Montenegrin sites and enjoying in local food/wines. Acquainting local people is a natural consequence of any ZalaZ tour !
This tour follows the Coastal Mountaineering Transversal routes passing through the Mediterranean zone of Crna Gora (Montenegro). It is focused in four different sceneries: Boka Kotorska bay, the Old Montenegro, Skadarsko lake and Rumija mountain.
Boka Kotorska bay is a natural and cultural phenomena worth to be visited. Having dramatic mountainous walls above it’s shores, influenced by many different cultures, this bay is declared as an UNESCO site meaning that it’s natural beauty and cultural heritage are worth to be preserved. The tour meets ancient coastal towns of Kotor and Perast, the best representatives of baroque architecture in this part of Balkans.
Old Montenegro makes the central part of Montenegrin history. The country is formed here, dating back from 15th century. The highlights of this area are Lovcen mountain and town of Cetinje. Representing the indigenous symbol of freedom over centuries, Lovcen is today one of 5 National Parks in Montenegro. It is positioned direct above the Adriatic coast. Cetinje was the center of Montenegro over 5 centuries, until 1918. This cozy town is proclaimed as the “Old Capitol of Montenegro” as well as the “Museum Town”.
The largest lake in Balkans, Skadarsko lake was the ancient cultural center of the region. Surrounded by mountains it testimonies the reach history with authentic villages and monasteries situated on islands. Its magic eco system is home for more than 270 bird species as it is one of the most important migratory flyways from Europe to Africa. So called “enchanted bird paradise”, this lake is also one of National Parks of Montenegro.
Rumija mountain is making the natural wall between Skadarsko lake and Adriatic coast. Remote and sleepy villages, old chestnut forests, forgotten mule roads and the most desirable views at Skadar lake with Albanian Alps. Ancient Stari Bar surrounded by endless olive forests is at the opposite side of Rumija, exactly where our trip finishes.

Accommodation (especially at the mountain huts) is quite basic and simple, please come with adequate expectations, respect and enjoy the local circumstances.
Visitors are expected to respect the wildlife, leave what they find, dispose of their waste properly and to be considerate with locals !
