On 6th August 2010 Laura Ruggeri went with us on our Twine of Montenegro tour – these were her impressions:
Hiking in Montenegro is one of those unforgettable experiences that will stay with you throughout your life. Zalaz arranged a great itinerary and am extremely grateful to our guide Vlatko for making me feel at home and comfortable in any situation. From day one, our small group felt like a group of old friends, there was none of the akwardness that can often arise with new acquaintances, where one doesn’t really know how to act or what to say. His confident and yet laid-back, warm presence enhanced our hiking experience. I have been hiking for many years, but had never had a guide before, therefore i didn’t know what to expect. I am very glad that guide was Vlatko.
Vlatko cares deeply about the environment and has designed tours that benefit the local economy without having an adverse impact on the traditional Montenegrin way of life in the mountains, one that is sustainable and in tune with nature. The tour was a real feast for both the eyes and the soul. Everyday my eyes were filled with such beauty that i can only describe as sublime. We travelled through landscapes that overpowered me with emotions that i cannot easily put into words, a sense of stillness, amazement and gratitude to the men and women who know, respect and protect their natural environment. My senses were awaken by smells, sounds and last but not least, the divine taste of home-made bread, cheese, yogurt served in hand-made wooden bowls. A trip to Montenegro was the perfect antidote to my life in Hong Kong, one of the most wasteful and unsustainable places on earth. If only i could be in Montenegro now…life would be sweet.
